SAFE SPACE INITIATIVE

HERfessions

HERfessions is an anonymous platform equipped with an online chat room, a resource center for all support services (legal, psycho-social, health, information on available shelters), and a trigger button to report abuse.

The mobile app serves to map the resources available to women and girls (18 and above) at risk and SGBV survivors; building a community of support and also providing anonymity.

Its features are extended to cover a virtual ecosystem of collaborative agencies that provide legal aid, vocational/educational, health, psycho-social support, shelter, feeding, and law enforcement.

One of the key differentiating features of the app is access to on-demand shelter either short-term or long-term stay- using a platform model that brings survivors in need of shelter with families (who meet all legal and security requirements) with available shelter. We currently have 71 app downloads and 63 active subscribers.

You can download the HERfessions app on Play store:

TEHILA

A physical empowerment event that supports survivors’ mental health, well-being, and financial stability.

The support group meetings offer group therapy, selected one-on-one sessions, legal clinic, and empowerment sessions. The meeting venues are carefully chosen – and only admit registered members.

With themes ranging from coping mechanisms to goal setting and vision boarding to building strong support for children, Tehila supports survivors of GBV to transition smoothly into society and to live a well-rounded life.

CAST

CAST is acronym for Community Advocacy Storytelling.

This is our advocacy tool for promoting social justice, peace, and safe spaces for women and girls (SDG5 and SDG16)

We curate anonymous stories of victims and survivors. These stories are used (with approved consent) to develop film scripts and produce short films and documentaries used in advocacy and prevention activities on the impact of sexual and gender-based violence on a cross-section of civil societies, government representatives, women, and girls from secondary and tertiary institutions.

Thus far, we have reached 24 civil society groups, partnering NGOs, the government, and 3186 women and girls with our network spanning Lagos (South-West), and Calabar (South-South), and a growing online presence.

One of our CAST initiatives is the Mirror-Mirror Stage play.

The Stage Play is an offshoot of a continuous effort to catalyze conversations on gender roles and harmful gender practices.

Safe Space Initiative allows victims and survivors tell their story under anonymity (during *Tehila series*) – these stories are used (with approved consent) to develop film scripts, produce short films and documentaries used in advocacy and prevention activities, events and fairs on the impact of sexual and gender-based violence to a cross-section of civil societies, government representatives, women and girls from secondary and tertiary institutions. This program happens every summer.

E & E

The E&E Project provides funds to survivors of SGBV and trains them in various skills through our partnership with other organizations.

As part of our E&E Project, we have been able to help one of our survivors with funds to rent an apartment. To help her build her financial capacity, 2 POS for business was facilitated through our partnership with Mamamoni.

With our partnership with Jobberman, we facilitated training to equip over 1000

Young women between the ages of 18 and 35 on soft skills needed to stay relevant in the workplace in the 21st century!
